There are times when life and art imitate one another and you aren't quite sure which came first as they intertwine. But writers often use what they have experienced in their stories, sometimes using similar events for their characters and at other times, tapping into powerful personal emotions as they seek a character's conflict or motivation. This year has been one of personal loss for me; a close family member and a much loved family pet have passed away. But it has also been a year of change that has brought with it hope and new possibilities. | In the way of chance, two publications, two months apart, share the idea of 'second chances' in their titles. The first was "Second Chance Love (A Bindarra Creek Romance)" which you've probably encountered already. The other is a Christmas anthology released a couple of weeks ago with members of my SE Queensland writers' group. "Second Chance Cafe" is four short stories perfect to read in a single sitting. From the hop fields of C19th Devon to present day NYC and Toowoomba (my home town), each story presents a different take on life, love, and second chances. Grab them whenever you can! |
